[Source] Medicinal material source: The cones of the giant white redwood of the Pinaceae family.

[Original form] Deciduous tree, up to 25m tall, with a chest circumference of about 80cm. The bark is gray to dark gray-brown, or slightly black, and cracked into thin flakes. The twigs are drooping, the current year's branches are yellowish brown or light grayish yellow, and the biennial branches are gray or dark gray; the winter buds are nearly spherical, slightly wider at the base, and the outer bud scales are triangular-ovate, with ridges, long pointed tips, and eyelashes on the edges. The leaves are clustered, oblanceolate and narrow, 1.5-3cm long, about 1mm wide, with pointed or obtuse tips, raised midribs on both sides, 1-2 white stomatal lines on each side of the upper middle part above, and 2-5 white stomatal lines on each side along the midrib below. The flower cones are unisexual and monoecious. The male cones are oval, about 1 cm long, with stalks, drooping, and yellow stamens; the female cones are ovate-oblong, with straight bracts and acute apex. The cones are ovate-oblong, 2.5-5cm long and 1.5-2.8cm in diameter; the seed scales are thin, opening significantly when ripe, flat square round or inverted triangular round, about 1cm long and 1-1.3cm wide, with dense soft hairs on the middle of the back of the scales; the bract scales are slightly longer than the seed scales, straight, about 1.5cm long, wider at the bottom, nearly equal in width in the middle and upper parts, and truncate at the tip. The fruit scales remain. The seeds are oblique triangular-ovate, about 8mm long including the wings, and the seed wings are light brown. The flowering period is April-May, and the cones mature in October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in mountains at an altitude of 2600-3500m.
