[Source] Medicinal material source: It is the root of Angelica sinensis of the Umbelliferae family.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 80-150cm tall. The roots are thick, up to 20 cm long and 3 cm in diameter, with a yellowish brown to grayish brown surface. The stem has fine grooves, is purple, and is covered with short hairs. Basal leaves spreading, three-time pinnate-lobed; stem leaves two to three times pinnate-lobed, petioles shorter than blades, base swollen into long circular sheaths, clasping the stem, densely covered with short hairs on the outside; blades 15-20cm long, 8-15cm wide, with 2-4 pairs of pinnae; terminal segments sometimes 3-lobed, base generally not decurrent or slightly decurrent or wing-shaped, sessile or petiolate, margins with sharp serrations, and with white cartilaginous edges; petioles of leaves on upper stems all grow into cylindrical sheaths, not swollen, appressed to clasping the stem, and purple. Compound umbel, peduncles, rays and petioles densely covered with short rough hairs; no bracts or one caducous; 3-7 bracteoles, linear, membranous, covered with short hairs; petals obovate, white; calyx teeth inconspicuous. The fruit is oblong to ovate, 4-6mm long, 3-4mm wide, with a raised dorsal ridge, broad wing-shaped lateral ridges, one dark brown oil tube in the groove, and two oil tubes on the symphysis. The flowering period is July-August, and the fruiting period is August-September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows on hillsides, roadsides, grasslands, forest edges, streams or under broad-leaved forests.
