【English Name】 Unibract Fritillary Bulb

[Other names] Wuhua Fritillaria, Song Fritillaria

[Source] It is the bulb of Fritillaria unibracteata Hsiao et KC Hsia, a plant of the Liliaceae family . Dig up the seedlings before they wither from July to September, expose them to the sun with mud or bake them on a low fire, and turn them over with bamboo or wooden tools at any time. When the surface turns pink, sift out the mud, put them into sacks, gently knock off the attached soil and old skin, and then dry them in the sun.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 15 to 23 cm tall. The bulb diameter is 6 to 8 mm. The leaves are mostly opposite, linear or linear-lanceolate, 3.6 to 5.5 cm long and 3 to 5 mm wide. The flowers are solitary, with one leaf-like bract; the tepals are 2.5-2.7 cm long, dark purple with small yellow-brown squares, and 6-10 mm wide; the stamens are about half the length of the tepals, with anthers nearly base-attached; the stigma lobes are very short, about 0.5-1 mm long. The capsule is 1-1.5 cm long, 1-1.2 cm wide, ribbed, with narrow wings on the ribs, about 1 mm wide. The flowering period is June and the fruiting period is August.

[Habitat distribution] Growing on grasslands at an altitude of 3200-4500m. It is mainly produced in Sichuan, Qinghai and Gansu.

[Properties] The bulb is conical or heart-shaped, with a diameter of 5 to 9 mm and a height of 4 to 8 mm. The surface is off-white and smooth. The two outer scales are of different sizes. The large scales tightly wrap the small scales, and the exposed part of the small scales is crescent-shaped, commonly known as "holding the moon in the arms". The top is sharp or blunt, mostly closed, and the bottom is flat and slightly concave. There are tiny scale leaves and heart buds inside. Slight odor, slightly sweet taste.
