[Source] It is the whole herb of the Labiatae plant Perilla frutescens . Harvested in autumn. Use fresh or dried.

[Original morphology] Perennial dwarf herb, 10 to 25 cm tall, the whole plant is densely covered with soft hairs. The stem is square. Branched from the base, clustered, erect or slightly inclined at the base, green or purple on the surface. Simple leaves are opposite; leaf blades are linear-lanceolate or obovate-lanceolate, 1.5-2.8 cm long, 0.4-0.9 cm wide, obtuse or slightly pointed at apex, cuneate at base, with crenate margin at upper half; petiole is 1.5 cm long, and the apical leaf is nearly sessile. The spike inflorescence is terminal, composed of several layers of whorls of cymes growing in the axils of bracts; each whorl has 2 to 4 flowers with short petioles; there are 2 broad ovate bracts under the flowers, which are fused; the corolla is 2-lipped, light reddish purple, densely covered with long white hairs, the upper lip is 3-lobed, erect, the lobes are obtuse, the middle lobe is slightly larger, and the lower lip is slightly long and curved outwards. 4 nutlets, oval. Flowering period is early winter.

[Habitat distribution] Growing on hillsides, in roadside grass or under bushes. Distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou and other places.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy, neutral.

【Functions and indications】 ① "Commonly used folk herbal medicines in Kunming": "Relieves exterior symptoms, raises the clear yang, and clears liver heat. Treats colds, headaches, hepatitis, eye pain, and dizziness."

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5-1 liang; or grind into powder.
