【Other name】 Milkweed, milkweed

[Source] The roots and leaves of the narrow-leaved Taiwan fig of the Moraceae family. Harvested in autumn and winter.

[Original form] Shrub, about 1 meter high. The branches are purple-red and have white latex when broken. Branchlets, veins, and petioles hispidulous, caducous. The leaves are simple and alternate, membranous, lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, 5-9 cm long and 1-2 cm wide. The lateral veins are at right angles to the midrib, and the veinlets are very inconspicuous. The inflorescence receptacle has stalks, solitary in leaf axils, spherical or pear-shaped, green or purple-red; there are 3 bracts at the base, and the male flowers and gall flowers grow in the same inflorescence receptacle; the female flowers grow in another inflorescence receptacle, with 3 to 4 male tepals and 2 stamens; the gall tepals have 3 to 4 or more, and the styles are short and lateral. The fruit is spherical and purple-red when ripe. The flowering period is from October to the following spring.

[Habitat distribution] Growing in bushes. Distributed throughout southeast my country.

【Nature and flavor】 Neutral, spicy and slightly astringent.

【Functions and indications】 Dispel wind and dampness, clear away heat and detoxify. Treat low back pain, jaundice, malaria, whooping cough, back carbuncle, mastitis, insufficient milk, gingivitis, and snake bites.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat whooping cough: 50 cents of milk tree root, decocted in water and taken orally.
