[Chemical composition] Contains various biological alkaloids such as fenugreek alkaloids, stachypine, cholecalciferol, and solanine. The content of solanine in seeds is the highest, which is 1.2-1.5%. The peel contains the pigments nasunin, perilla frutescens, delphinidin-3-glucoside, delphinidin-3,5-diglucoside, etc.

[Pharmacological action] Oral administration or injection of extracts of fruits and leaves (fresh or dried powder) can lower blood cholesterol levels in rabbits and humans and have a diuretic effect; however, this result could not be confirmed by giving healthy men 12 to 24 grams of the plant powder orally per day.

[Clinical Application] Eggplant can be used externally to treat a variety of surgical diseases: 1. Chronic foot ulcer: Take the skin of fresh purple eggplant and apply it topically, 1 to 2 times a day. When first used, local symptoms worsen, but the reactions disappear in about a week. ㈡ Skin ulcer: Take simmered and calcined eggplant, grind it into fine powder, add a small amount of borneol, mix well, sprinkle on the wound, and bandage with gauze. ㈢Mastitis, furuncle and carbuncle: Sprinkle eggplant powder on Vaseline gauze. Apply externally to the affected area. All 4 cases were treated effectively.
