[Original form] Vernonia grandiflora is a perennial herb, 50-90cm tall. The stem is erect, unbranched or sparsely branched, ridged and striated, and covered with short soft hairs, which are denser on the upper part. Leaves are alternate; with short petioles, 3-5mm long, and covered with short soft hairs; leaf blades are oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 7-12cm long, 1.5-5cm wide, acuminate or short acuminate at the apex, rounded or broadly cuneate at the base, sparsely serrated at the upper margin, nearly entire at the lower part, with 7-8 pairs of lateral veins, arcuately extending to the margin, with reticular veins, the veins are raised underneath, and covered with short soft hairs and resinous glands along the veins. The capitula is few, 6-8mm in diameter, with 15-20 flowers, usually arranged in sparse conical corymbs on lateral short branches; the peduncle is thin, 8-12mm long, with 2 linear bracteoles, densely pubescent and glandular; the involucre is hemispherical, 6-7mm long and 6-8mm wide; the involucral bracts are about 5 layers, linear, green or purple-red at the upper end, with pointed apex, covered with spider-like pubescence and glandular on the back, the outer layer is short and awl-shaped, the inner layer is 6mm long and about 1mm wide, with narrow membranous edges; the receptacle is flat, with sparse thorn-like pores; the flowers are purple, the corolla is tubular, 6-8mm long, glabrous, and with sparse glands. Achenes are oblong-cylindrical, 3-3.5mm long, with 10 ribs, covered with short stiff hairs and brown glandular dots; pappus is white, 2 layers, the outer layer is short, the inner layer is rough and hairy, 6mm long. The flowering period is from October to February of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in valley wilderness or lakeside thickets.
