[Source] Medicinal material source: the roots, stems and leaves of Wisteria repens, a plant of the Elaeagnaceae family.

[Original form] Wisteria confusa is an evergreen shrub, upright or climbing, 2-3m high. Thornless, young branches densely covered with rusty scales, old branches dark black. Simple leaves are alternate; petioles are brown, 8-15mm long; leaf blades are papery or thinly leathery, elliptical or ovate-elliptical to lanceolate, 5-10cm long, 2-4cm wide, acuminate at the apex, nearly rounded or broadly cuneate at the base, light green or green above with sunken scars, brown-red or brown-yellow below, densely covered with scales. The flowers are large, brown or rusty, covered with scales on the outside, and often clustered on short branches in the leaf axils. The perianth tube is bell-shaped, 10-11mm long, 5-7mm wide when flattened at the throat, and 4-lobed at the top, with lobes 5-7mm long; there are 4 stamens, born in the throat, and the filaments are 1.5-1.6mm long; the style is slender and glabrous. The fruit is oval, yellow-green, covered with brown scales, and 15-22mm long. The flowering period is from October to December, and the fruiting period is from April to May of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in hilly or mountainous areas at an altitude of 500-2100m.

【Nature and flavor】 Sour; astringent; slightly warm

【Functions and indications】Relieves cough and asthma; astringes and stops diarrhea; dispels wind and promotes blood circulation. It is mainly used for cough and asthma; hemoptysis; stomachache; diarrhea; chronic hepatitis; rheumatic pain; chronic osteomyelitis; acute orchitis; sores and ringworms; hemorrhoids and swelling and pain; swelling and pain due to falls.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 9-18g of roots, 30-60g of stems and leaves. For external use: apply appropriate amount, grind into powder and sprinkle on the affected area or decoct in water for fumigation or washing.
