The ground cover is an annual herb. The whole plant has white latex. The stem is slender, with many branches at the base, creeping or spreading, purple-red, and often hairy on the upward side. Leaves are opposite; petioles are short; stipules are small and triangular; leaf blades are oblong or elliptical, often purple-red, 4-8cm long, 3-5mm wide, with rounded apex, oblique base, inconspicuous serrations on the edges, and sparsely covered with fine soft hairs on the underside. The cup-shaped cyme is gluey; the bracts are hairy outside; there are 4 male flowers and 1 female flower in the inflorescence; the male flower has only 1 stamen; the female flower is in the center, with only 1 pistil and 3 stigmas, each with 2 deep lobes. The capsule is triangular-spherical, with a long fruit stalk that extends out of the involucre, and only the fruit ridges are hairy. The seeds are nearly oval and angular. The flowering and fruiting period is almost all year round.
