[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Atriplex canescens of the Chenopodiaceae family.

[Original form] Small shrub, 20-50cm high. The stem is inclined or procumbent, and adventitious roots often grow at the bottom; the branches are alternate, light green, sometimes purple-red, and slightly ridged. Simple leaves are alternate; petiole is 1-3mm long; leaf blade is broadly ovate to ovate, thick, usually 1-2cm long, 8-15mm wide, entire, both sides are gray-green, with dense powder, apex is rounded or obtuse, base is broadly cuneate to rounded. Flowers are gathered in short spikes with leaves at the upper part of branches; the perianth of male flowers is conical, 4-5 deeply lobed, the lobes are obovate, folded inward at the apex, the stamens are the same number as the perianth segments but are usually not fully developed, the filaments are flat, fused at the base, and there is no degenerate ovary; the bracts of female flowers are triangular to ovate-rhombus-shaped, with irregular serrations on the edges, the edges are fused near the base, the center near the base is corky and swollen, yellow-white, with an upward protrusion on each side of the midline. The fruit is flat, oval, and the pericarp is membranous. The seeds are oblate, slightly convex on both sides, and reddish brown to black. The flowering period is late autumn, and the fruiting period is from December to January of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in open sandy areas on the seashore.

【Functions and indications】 Expel wind and dampness; promote blood circulation and regulate menstruation; detoxify and reduce swelling. It is used for rheumatic pain, leucorrhea, irregular menstruation, sores, carbuncle, and dermatitis.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g, double the amount for fresh product. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.
