【Other name】 Polygonum multiflorum

[Source] It is the whole herb of Polygonum nephrodisiac, a plant of the Polygonaceae family. Harvest in summer and autumn and sun-dried.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 15 to 30 cm high. The stem is erect. Leaves are often clustered at the base and have long petioles; leaf blades are reniform, 1.5-3 cm long, 2-4 cm wide, obtuse at the apex, broadly cordate at the base, entire or wavy; leaves on the stems are often degenerate, leaving only the membranous stipule sheaths, sometimes with 1-2 leaflets. The panicle is terminal, with slender pedicels; the flowers are small, bisexual, light green, with 4 tepals in two whorls, the inner whorl tepals slightly enlarged and obovate when fruiting; 6 stamens; 2 styles. Achenes are oblate, with membranous wings on the edges, sunken apex, and light red wings.

[Habitat distribution] Growing on hillsides or valleys in mountainous areas. Distributed in Jilin, Shaanxi, Qinghai, Sichuan, Yunnan and Tibet.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and removes dampness. Treat liver disharmony, hepatitis, and scurvy.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 3 to 4 qian.
