[Original morphology] Aster aurantium is a perennial upright herb, 40-70cm tall. The rhizome is thick. Stem solitary or sparsely tufted, branched above, covered with spreading long coarse hairs, often glandular. The lower leaves are densely grown, withered during anthesis, obovate to oblong, gradually narrowed at the base; the lobes are oblong or narrowly elliptic, 3-6cm long, 0.5-1.2cm wide, obtuse or slightly pointed at the apex, slightly narrow at the bottom, and the base expanded into a rounded auricle that embraces the stem, with shallow or crenate teeth above the middle, or nearly entire; the upper leaves are small, linear-lanceolate or oblong, all covered with dense rough hairs on the upper or both sides, glandular at the bottom and with long coarse hairs along the veins and edges; 3-4 pairs of lateral veins, inner and outer veins are thin. The capitula is arranged in a conical umbel or corymb shape at the end of the stem and branches; the peduncle is 1-8cm long, with linear bracts; the involucre is hemispherical; the involucre has 3 layers, is linear-lanceolate, nearly leathery, with dense glands on the upper part of the outer branches, or mixed with short rough hairs, the inner midrib has glands, the edges are membranous, often torn, and have purple long tips; there are about 30 ligulate flowers, the ligules are white, 8-10mm long; the tubular flowers are up to 5mm long, and the lobes are 1.5mm long; the style attachment is 0.5mm long.
