[Source] Medicinal material source: The tuber of Arisaema consanguineum, a plant of the Araceae family.

[Original form] Perennial herb. The tuber is oblate, 1-2 cm in diameter. There are 2 scale leaves, 6-8cm long, holding the petiole, short and sharp, with awn-like hard tips. There is one leaf, with a petiole 9-25cm long and sheath-like at the bottom; the leaf blade is green, entire or 3-lobed; the lobes of the 3-lobed leaves are narrowly lanceolate or elliptic, gradually narrowing from the middle to the two ends, the lateral veins ascend, intersecting the midrib at an acute angle of 20 degrees to 30 degrees, and connected to form a collective vein near the edge; the entire single leaf has a variable shape, linear, lanceolate to oblong, 15-18cm long, 0.4-4cm wide, acute or acuminate, and the base is narrowly cuneate to slightly cordate. The stalk of the inflorescence is usually longer than the petiole, 15-28cm long, 1-1.5mm thick, and thicker upwards; the spathe is green or light yellow, 8.5-17cm long, the tube is funnel-shaped, 5-6cm long, obliquely truncated, slightly curled at the edge, without ears, the eaves is nearly as long as the tube, wider, and ovate-lanceolate; the spadix is ​​unisexual, slender, 2-3cm in the lower part, with flowers, slender appendages, purple to pale, sessile, and a gradually narrowed linear tail, 9-20cm long, curved and drooping; the male inflorescence is purple, the male flowers have 4 stamens, and the anthers are dehiscent at the tip. The female inflorescence is yellow-green, with an ovary oblong, gradually narrowing to a short style at the apex, and a capitate stigma. The infructescence is 3-4 cm long, and the berries have 1-4 seeds. The flowering period is July and the fruiting period is August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown under pine forests, grass slopes or alpine grasslands at an altitude of 1600-3400m.

[Properties] This product is often mixed with A. Yunnanense Buchet. However, the leaves of this species are entire or 3-lobed, the lobes are narrow, lanceolate or elliptic, and the appendages are slender, 9-10cm long, and drooping. This species and Arisaema confusa are both used as medicine in Yunnan as Pinellia ternata. A. Prazeri Engl. It is also often used instead of Pinellia ternata.

【Functions and indications】Resolves phlegm and relieves cough; soothes the stomach and stops vomiting; reduces swelling and resolves lumps. It is mainly used for cough due to phlegm and fluid, vomiting due to stomach cold, vomiting during pregnancy, nervous vomiting, fractures, carbuncle, and snake bites.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3-6g (preferably roasted with ginger and simmered for a long time); or made into pills or powder. For external use: take appropriate amount, grind into powder and apply on the affected area.

【Note】 Do not take this medicine if you have Yin deficiency, dry cough, blood syndrome or thirst.
