[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Clematis odorata, a plant of the Ranunculaceae family.

[Original form] Clematis truncatula, a woody vine. The twigs are cylindrical, with longitudinal wrinkles and covered with spreading light grayish yellow soft hairs. Leaves opposite, trifoliate; petiole 6-8cm long, pubescent during incubation period; leaflets ovate or shallowly cordate, 2 and 3 upper margins with coarse and blunt serrations, lower tufted margins, 3-5 arcuate main veins, main veins and lateral veins below are all raised, both sides are covered with light grayish yellow pubescence, lower part has a pair of linear lanceolate lobes, 1.5cm long; sepals 4, oblong elliptic, about 1.5cm long; 4-7mm wide, lower part is close to synthetic tubular, apex slightly recurved, about 1.5cm in diameter, outside and margins densely covered with light grayish yellow pubescence, inside only the recurved apex is pubescent; petals absent; stamens numerous, 1.5-1.7cm long, filaments linear, with sparse short soft secretions at the base, upper part is covered with long soft hairs, longer than the anther, anther oblong elliptic, about 2mm long, glabrous; carpels numerous, covered with silky hairs, style base is covered with long soft hairs, upper hairs are short. Achenes flat, persistent style feathery, 3-3.5cm long. The flowering period is from November to January of the following year, and the fruiting period is from February to March.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows on the edge of forests, beside streams, on roadsides or under forests.

[Properties] Identification of properties: the stems and branches are cylindrical and slightly twisted. The ones without rough bark are light brown-yellow in color, and sweet membranous scales can be seen at the base of the branches. The nodes are slightly swollen and hard in texture. The wood occupies most of the cross section, and the pores are relatively large. It has a faint smell and a slightly bitter and spicy taste.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; light; slightly spicy; slightly cold

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; promotes diuresis; removes blood stasis and dredges meridians. Mainly used for sores, carbuncles, furunculosis, mastitis, edema, urinary incontinence, stranguria, and traumatic injuries

[Usage and Dosage] Neita: decoction, 10-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and decoct in water for external washing.
