[Original form] Macrocarpa, a tree, up to 30m high, rarely in the form of a shrub. The crown is green, light yellow-green or gray-green; the bark cracks into irregular thin flakes and falls off; the branches are not dense, the first branch is cylindrical, and the second to third branches are nearly cylindrical or quadrangular. The scale leaves are green or yellow-green, opposite and decussate, rarely 3 leaves are arranged in whorls, 1-3mm long, obtuse or blunt-pointed at the apex, arched on the back or with obtuse ridges on the upper part, with obvious glands located in the middle of the back of the leaf, linear-elliptical or linear; the spiny leaves are often young needle-shaped, 4-8mm long, concave on the upper side, with white powder; the midrib is arched and convex below, with fine longitudinal grooves along the ridges. Dioecious or monoecious, male cones are nearly spherical, with 3 pairs of stamens, 2-3 anthers, and a nearly round connective. The cones are oval or nearly spherical, green or with small black spots before maturity, reddish brown, brown to black or purple when ripe, containing one seed, which is oval, slightly flattened, with a round base, 2-3 obtuse longitudinal ridges on both sides or in the upper middle part, and 4-8 deeper resin grooves on the surface.
