【English name】RADIX ECHINOPSIS

[Source] This product is the dried root of Echinops latifolius Tausch or Echinops grijisii Hance, plants of the Asteraceae family . Dig up in spring and autumn, remove the fibrous roots and mud, and dry in the sun.

[Properties] This product is cylindrical, slightly twisted, 10-25cm long, 0.5-1.5cm in diameter, grayish yellow or grayish brown on the surface, with longitudinal wrinkles, and fibrous brown bristles on the top. It is hard and not easy to break. The bark is brown in cross section, and the wood has yellow and black radial texture. Slight smell, slightly astringent taste.

【Identification】 The powder of this product is brown-yellow. The bast fibers are mostly in bundles, with a diameter of 20 to 42 μm and thick walls. There is brown resinous substance in the intercellular space. The wood fibers are slender, tapering at both ends, 12 to 30 μm in diameter, and have thick walls. Margined pits and reticulated ducts are more common, with a diameter of 20 to 120 μm. Stone cells are rare, and are round, rectangular or square in shape, 35 to 150 μm in diameter, with distinct stratification and pores, and brown resinous substances in the intercellular spaces. Inulin is visible.
