[Source] It is the leaves of Eucalyptus citriodora , a plant of the Myrtaceae family. Harvest on a sunny day in autumn and dry in the shade.

[Original form] Lemon eucalyptus, also known as: oil eucalyptus, lemon-scented eucalyptus, and long-lasting fragrance.

[Habitat distribution] Cultivated in Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi, Sichuan and other places. Produced in Guangxi, Guangdong and other places.

[Properties] Dry leaves are oblong (young leaves) or ovate-lanceolate (old leaves), yellow-green in color. The young leaves have brown prickles on the surface and petioles, many cork spots, are rough, and have a strong aroma. The old leaves are smooth and hairless, and their fragrance is slightly inferior to that of young leaves.

[Chemical composition] Contains 0.5-2.0% volatile oil, the main components of which are citronellal, citronellol, geraniol, isopulegol, 1,8-cineole and guaiacol. It also contains rutin, quercetin, quercetin, shikimic acid, quinic acid, glutaric acid, succinic acid, malic acid, citric acid and a eucalyptol, which may be a derivative of coumarin.

[Pharmacological action] Citral has anti-tuberculosis effect. Its concentration of 1:1 million can inhibit the growth of human tuberculosis bacteria (H37Rv), which is equivalent to isoniazid in efficacy; 1:600,000 can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus; 1:600,000 can inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium phleis. It also has an inhibitory effect on certain fungi, but is ineffective against Escherichia coli. The trunk of the same plant, Eucalyptous maculata Hook., contains components that are irritating to the skin, and the gum it produces has highly astringent properties.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral administration: decoct in water, 2 to 3 qian. For external use: decoct in water and wash.
