[Source] Medicinal material source: The leaves of Rumex batiana of the Polygonaceae family.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 1-1.5m high. The roots are thick and yellowish brown. Stem erect and strong, simple or branched. Basal leaves are long-petiolate, oblong, with rounded or cordate base, 15-30cm long, with entire or wavy margins; stem leaves are smaller, oblong-lanceolate, nearly sessile, and stipules are membranous and tubular. Large panicles terminal and axillary; flowers bisexual, mostly clustered and whorled; pedicels jointed below middle; 6 tepals, light green, 2-layered, persistent, inner 3 tepals enlarged during fruiting, with tubercle-like protrusions at base; 6 stamens; ovary superior, 3 styles, stigma finely fissured. Achenes are ovate-triangular, 3 mm long, brown, and enclosed in the perianth. Flowering period is May-June. Fruiting period is August-September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows in valleys, roadsides, grasslands or ditches.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; cold

【Functions and indications】 Dispel wind and relieve itching; heal sores; clear away heat and relieve fever. Mainly used for skin itching, burns, sore throat

【Usage and Dosage】 For external use: take appropriate amount, decoct in water for washing; or mash and apply on the affected area. For internal use: decoction, 15-30g; or squeeze juice.

[Note] Do not consume in large quantities to avoid toxic and side effects such as abdominal distension, salivation, gastroenteritis, and abdominal pain.
