【Functions and indications】 ① "Compendium of Materia Medica": "Soaked in wine, nourishes the waist and knees."

[Additional prescription] To treat burns: Grind the dried selenium in Ligustrum lucidum bark into fine powder, mix with tea oil and apply to the wound. (Commonly used herbal medicines among Zhejiang folks)

[Clinical Application] Treatment of chronic bronchitis: Take 4 liang (2 liang of dry product) of Ligustrum lucidum bark, chop it into pieces, boil it in water for 3 to 4 hours, remove the residue, add sugar, and take it in 3 times. One course of treatment is 10 days, and two courses can be taken in a row. You can also use 6 liang of Ligustrum lucidum branches and leaves (3 liang of dry product); or 6 liang of Ligustrum lucidum bark and 1 liang of loquat leaves to form a compound; the preparation method, usage and course of treatment are the same as before. According to the observation of 492 cases, there was no significant difference in the efficacy of the above three methods, and the total effective rate was 89.2%. Among them, 123 cases (25%) were under short-term control, 139 cases (28.3%) were significantly effective, and 177 cases (36.9%) were improved. The short-term control rate of the simple type was higher, while that of the wheezing type was lower. The short-term control rate varies significantly with the severity of the disease, with severe disease being the lowest, moderate disease being the second highest, and mild disease being the highest. Side effects occasionally occur during treatment, mainly dry mouth, dizziness, mild abdominal pain, and diarrhea, which disappear on their own after stopping the medication. For some cases, the side effects are reduced or even disappear after continuing to take the medication for a few days.
