The outer surface is yellowish brown or reddish brown, the inner surface is yellowish brown, densely covered with fine hairs. Hard and brittle. Odorless, bitter taste.

[Identification] Take 2g of crude powder of this product, add 10ml of 70% ethanol, soak at warm temperature for 2 hours, filter, evaporate the filtrate to dryness, add 1ml of methanol to the residue to dissolve it, and use it as the test solution. Take another gallic acid reference substance and add methanol to make a solution containing 0.5 mg per 1 ml as the reference substance solution. According to the thin layer chromatography method (Appendix Ⅵ B), 5 μl of the test solution and 2 μl of the reference solution were respectively spotted on the same silica gel G thin layer plate with sodium carboxymethyl cellulose as the adhesive, and toluene (saturated with water)-ethyl formate-formic acid (5:4:1) was used as the developing agent. The plate was developed, taken out, dried, and sprayed with 1% ferric chloride ethanol solution. In the test sample chromatogram, a spot of the same color appears at the corresponding position in the reference sample chromatogram.
