[Alias] Wumahua (Qianjin Fang).

[Source] The flowering branches of the male plant of the Moraceae plant Cannabis sativa.

[Chemical composition] The resin secreted by the female flower spike contains narcotic substances such as cannabinol, tetrahydrocannabinol, and cannabidiol. Among them, tetrahydrocannabinol is the most active, followed by cannabidiol, and cannabinol is the least active. Cannabis resin also contains cannabidiol, cannabinol and trans-cinnamic acid; in addition, the resin also contains cholecalciferol, fenugreek, muscarinic acid; it also contains amino acids such as arginine and histidine.

【Pharmacological action】 ①Effect on the central nervous system

[Toxicity] The median lethal dose for mice is (mg/kg): 42.5 (intravenous injection), 455 (intraperitoneal injection), 482 (oral administration); the median lethal dose for rats is: 28.6, 373 and 666 respectively. Symptoms of poisoning include movement disorders, hyperreflexia, followed by inhibition, disappearance of righting reflex, difficulty breathing, and even death. Post-mortem autopsy revealed pulmonary congestion and edema, but no obvious abnormalities were found in other organs.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, warm, poisonous.

【Functions and indications】Dispel wind and promote blood circulation. It is used to treat numbness of limbs caused by rheumatism, itching all over the body, and amenorrhea in women.

[Additional prescription] ① Treating numbness caused by wind disease: 4 liang of Ma Hua, 1 liang of Cao Wu, stir-fry until the essence is preserved, grind into powder, mix with refined honey to form a paste, take 3 fen each time, mixed with white soup. (Compendium of Materia Medica)
