[Original form] Weak herbaceous vine, 1 to 2 meters long. Tuberous root. The stems are pubescent or smooth, with unbranched tendrils. The leaves are triangular-ovate, 3 to 8 cm long, with short or gradually pointed apex, halberd-shaped base, nearly entire margin or irregularly serrated or slightly divided, membranous, rough on both sides, with small white spots; the petiole is shorter than the auricle. The flowers are unisexual, monoecious, white; male flowers are solitary or several are clustered in the leaf axils, with slender petioles, short calyx tube, 5 small calyx teeth, 5 deeply lobed corollas, lobes triangular-ovate, 3 stamens, and separate anthers; female flowers are solitary, growing in the same leaf axils as male flowers, with longer petioles, calyx and corolla like male flowers, rectangular ovary, and 3 styles. The fruit is oval or elliptical, 1.2 to 2 cm long; the seeds are flat with strong edges. Flowering period is from July to August. Fruiting period is September.
