【Other name】 Xiaohua Manshanbai

[Source] Medicinal material source: the roots, stems, leaves and flowers of Rhododendron tricholoma, a plant of the Ericaceae family.

[Original form] Semi-evergreen shrub, up to 2m tall. It is multi-branched, with young branches densely covered with flat gray or red rough hairs, old branches gradually smooth and hairless, and the bark is longitudinally cracked and fibrous. Leaves are dimorphic, leathery, clustered at the top of branches; petioles are 3-5mm long and densely covered with rough hairs; spring leaves are ovate to oblong-lanceolate, 4-6.5cm long, 0.8-2.5cm wide, acuminate at the apex with a short tip, broadly cuneate at the base, glabrous or nearly glabrous above, densely covered with long reddish-brown rough hairs below; summer leaves are smaller, ovate, 1.5-2.5cm long, 6-8mm wide. The umbel is terminal, with 3-10 flowers, and the pedicel is 3-5mm long, densely covered with rough hairs; the calyx is small, the lobes are not obvious, nearly round, and densely covered with reddish-brown flat hairs; the corolla is narrowly funnel-shaped, white or light red, the corolla tube is about 8mm long, rose-colored, sparsely hairy on the outside, the lobes are long and spreading, and there are purple-red spots on the top; there are 5 stamens, extending out of the corolla, the anthers are dorsal, and the apical pores are cracked; there is 1 ovary, and the style base is pubescent. The capsule is oval, 8-10mm long, densely covered with rough hairs. The flowering period is April and the fruiting period is September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in thickets beside roadsides on hilly slopes.

[Chemical composition] The leaves contain hyperin, quercitrin, quercetin, friedelin, α-amyrin, β-sitosterol and epifriedelin.
