Albizia Julibrissin bark is made from the dried bark of the Albizia Julibrissin tree. It needs to be peeled in summer and autumn to retain its most essential medicinal effect. It has the effects of calming the mind, nourishing qi, relieving depression and reducing swelling. It is often used to cure diseases such as restlessness, insomnia and depression. However, when using Albizzia julibrissin bark, it is usually used together with angelica, musk and other drugs to achieve better results, and its dosage should be determined according to the actual condition of the disease.

[Medicinal part]: The bark of the Albizia julibrissin plant of the Leguminosae family.

[Origin and Distribution]: Distributed in Northeast China, East China, Central South and Southwest China.

[Morphological characteristics]: Deciduous tree with umbrella-shaped crown. The leaves are alternate, the inflorescence is umbel-shaped, the stamen filaments are like threads, half white and half red, so it is called "horse tassel flower" and "velvet flower". The trunk is light gray-brown and the bark is slightly cracked longitudinally. The branches are thick and sparse, and the young branches are angular. The leaves are even-pinnate compound leaves with 10 to 30 pairs of leaflets, which are sickle-shaped and round, opening during the day and closing at night. The umbel is capitate, the calyx and petals are yellow-green, five-lobed, the upper part of the filaments are red or pink, clustered into balls, and the flowering period is June to July. The fruit is a pod that matures in October.

Dosage and Usage of Albizzia julibrissin

For internal use: decoct in water, 10-15g; or make into pills or powder. For external use: take appropriate amount, grind into powder and apply on the affected area.

The efficacy and function of Albizzia julibrissin

Calms the mind and relieves depression, promotes blood circulation and eliminates carbuncle. It is mainly used to treat restlessness, depression, insomnia, internal and external carbuncles, and bruises. Used for restlessness, depression, insomnia, lung abscesses, swellings, and injuries from falls.

Albizzia julibrissin

① Treat cough with slight fever, irritability, fullness, and chest and heart pain, which is lung abscess. Dusk (also known as dusk) is an area as big as the palm of your hand. ②Treat lung abscess that does not heal for a long time: Albizzia julibrissin bark, Bletilla striata. Decoction of the two ingredients together. (Hehuan Drink from Jingyue Complete Works)

③ Treat injuries to muscles and bones caused by beatings and blows: 4 liang of night-blooming jasmine bark (fry until dry and grind into powder), add 1 qian each of musk and frankincense. Take three large coins each time, mixed with warm wine, and drink when you are neither hungry nor full. (Continuation of the original story)

④ Treat injuries and fractures caused by beatings: 4 liang of night-blooming jasmine (remove the rough bark, take the white bark, file it into pieces, and stir-fry until it turns yellow and slightly black), 1 liang of mustard seeds (fried). Grind the above ingredients into fine powder, mix with wine, and take it at night; apply the coarse residue on the sore and tie it up. This medicine is specifically used for bone massage.
