[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Loxodonta scabra, a plant of the Gentianaceae family.

[Original form] Annual herb, 20-40cm tall. The whole plant is smooth and hairless. The stem is erect and much branched. Leaves are opposite; sessile; leaf blades are ovate-lanceolate, 1-5cm long and 0.5-2.5cm wide. Leaves on the upper part of the stem are smaller, with acute apex and rounded or cuneate base; leaf veins are thin, with 3-5 veins. Compound umbels are pseudo-binary branched; calyx is tubular, 4-lobed, calyx tube is membranous, 9-11mm long; corolla is white, 1.4-1.6cm long, with 4 lobes at the tip, flat and cross-shaped. Oval or oblong-spatulate; 4 stamens, inserted in the upper part of the corolla tube, irregular, 1 stamen developed, filaments filiform, 2-2.5mm long; ovary sessile, cylindrical, 5-6.5cm long, style filiform, 8.5-10mm long, stigma 2-lobed, lobes oblong. The capsule is enclosed, oblong, membranous, and 7-8mm long. The seeds are small, oblate, yellowish brown, and have a reticular surface. The flowering and fruiting period is from August to February of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown under valley forests at an altitude of 200-1400m.
