[Source] The whole herb of the leguminous plant Codonopsis lanceolata . Harvest when the fruit is ripe from July to September, and sun-dry or air-dry.

[Original morphology] Perennial herb, 10 to 40 cm tall, the whole plant is glabrous. The rhizome is slender, light yellow-brown, with a few fibrous roots. The stem is erect, slightly branched, with fine longitudinal lines on the surface. 3-leaf compound leaves, alternate; leaflets obovate-oblong or oblanceolate, 2.5-8.5 cm long, 7-20 mm wide, acute at apex, cuneate at base, smooth above, densely prostrate with short soft hairs below; 2 stipules, opposite, united at base, terminal raceme; 3 bracts, united at base; flowers about 3 cm long; calyx tubular, about 1.6 cm long; corolla butterfly-shaped, yellow. The pods are linear, 5 to 9 cm long and 7 to 12 mm wide. The seeds are kidney-shaped, dark brown and shiny. Flowering period is from June to July. Fruiting period is July to August.

[Habitat distribution] Grown in riverside grasslands, sand dunes, roadsides and field edges. Distributed throughout Northeast, North China and Northwest my country.
