Side effects of reed root

Side effects of reed root

Reed root is a traditional Chinese medicine. I wonder if you have ever paid attention to the ingredient list of Chinese patent cold medicines. Chinese patent medicines used for wind-heat colds generally contain reed root. Reed root has the effect of clearing away heat in the body, such as lung heat cough, small intestine fire and so on. As a traditional Chinese medicine, fresh reed root can be used. If fresh reed root is not available, dried reed root can be used. Fresh reed root has better medicinal effects. Reed root is the root of reed, which is sweet and cold in nature.

Reed roots are found all over the country. Reed roots like to grow in places with water, and reed roots in running water are the best. The root of reed is long cylindrical or flat cylindrical, with a diameter of about 1.5 cm. The surface is yellow-white, the entire reed root has nodes, and the middle is hollow. There is a peelable skin on the outside.

The rhizome of reed root contains a large amount of vitamins B1, B2, C, as well as 5% protein, 1% fat, 51% carbohydrates, and 0.1% asparagine. It also contains amino acids, fatty acids, sterols, tocopherols, and polyphenols such as caffeic acid and gentisic acid. It also contains 2,5-dimethoxy-p-benzoquinone, p-hydroxybenzaldehyde, syringaldehyde, coniferaldehyde, vanillic acid, ferulic acid, p-coumaric acid and dioxane lignin. Reed root is sweet, cold and non-toxic. For patients with diabetes, there is heat in the middle burner, which leads to dryness of the spleen and stomach and the lack of body fluid. Sweetness can nourish the stomach and harmonize the middle, while coldness can remove heat and reduce fire. When the heat is relieved and the stomach is harmonized, the body fluid will flow and the thirst will be relieved. Guest heat is evil heat. Sweet and cold foods can eliminate the evil heat, and the guest heat will disappear. The lungs are the upper source of water. The spleen disperses essence and returns it to the lungs, where it can regulate the water channels and transport it to the bladder. The kidneys are the water organ and are responsible for urination and defecation. If there is heat in these three organs, urination will be frequent, and you may even be unable to hold it in, because fire is a rapid nature. If the heat in the lungs, kidneys, and spleen is resolved, urination will return to normal. If fire increases stomach heat, there will be nausea, vomiting, inability to eat, and choking and hiccups.

Reed root is a commonly used Chinese medicine. It is common knowledge that all medicines are poisonous. Traditional Chinese medicine is difficult to learn, and even more difficult to master. Many traditional Chinese medicine doctors know what prescription to use for what disease. The difference between famous doctors and ordinary doctors lies in the dosage of medicine. Reed root is inherently cold in nature, and using a slightly larger dosage will have side effects and damage the spleen and stomach.
