[Source] It is the fruit of coriander, a plant of the Umbelliferae family. When the fruits are ripe in August and September, the branches are picked, dried in the sun, the fruits are beaten, impurities are removed, and then dried in the sun until they are sufficiently dry.

[Habitat distribution] Mainly produced in Jiangsu, Anhui and Hubei. In addition, it is also produced in Gansu, Sichuan and other places.

[Properties] The fruit is a double-hanging fruit with two small pods fused together, spherical in shape, and 3 to 5 mm in diameter. Light yellow-brown to earthy yellow-brown, with very short stigma remnants visible at the top, mostly split into two, surrounded by 5 precious sepals. The surface is relatively rough, with 10 not-so-obvious wavy ridges alternating with 12 obvious vertical ridges. The base is blunt and rounded, and sometimes a small fruit stalk or fruit stalk mark can be seen. The back of the schizocarp is raised, the middle of the ventral side is concave, with three longitudinal ridges, the middle is straighter, and the two sides are curved in an arc shape. Sometimes a hanging fruit stalk can be seen. The fruit is slightly hard. It has a fragrant smell and when crushed by hand, it emits a special and strong aroma with a slightly spicy taste. The best ones are those with full, clean grains and no impurities.

[Chemical composition] The fruit contains 1-1.4% volatile oil and 26% fat; the volatile oil contains a variety of terpenes, alcohol compounds, camphor, geraniol, etc. The fruit also contains glucose, fructose and sucrose.

[Pharmacological action] The dried and ripe fruit is a weak aromatic and can generally be used as a flavoring agent in combination with other medicines. It can also enhance the secretion of gastrointestinal glands and promote bile secretion. The volatile oils contained have certain antifungal effects.

【Properties and flavors】 "Compendium of Materia Medica": "pungent and sour, neutral, non-toxic."

【Functions and indications】 Clearing away rash, strengthening the stomach. It is used to treat acne, loss of appetite, dysentery and hemorrhoids.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral administration: decoct in water, 2 to 4 qian; or make into powder. For external use: decoct in water for gargling or fumigation.

[Additional prescription] ① To treat the initial stage of measles: 4 liang of coriander seeds. After pounding, put it into a clay pot or aluminum pot, fill it with clean water, place it in a ward (the ward should be small and not ventilated), and boil it over charcoal fire to fill the room with steam.
