Alibaba CMO Wang Shuai talks about Double 11 expectations: Worried that sales exceeding 30 billion will overwhelm logistics

Tmall has been keeping silent about its sales forecast for Double 11, but on October 17, Alibaba Group CMO Wang Shuai accidentally revealed on Alibaba's mobile social tool Laiwang that the sales forecast for this year's Double 11 is that it is afraid of exceeding 30 billion, fearing that it will exceed the maximum capacity of the express delivery system in China, bringing pressure to the logistics and express delivery industry.

Last year, Tmall's single-day sales on Double 11 reached 19.1 billion, creating nearly 80 million packages. This year, according to estimates, if Tmall reaches 30 billion in sales per day, it will generate 150 million packages, while the total daily capacity limit of express delivery nationwide is almost 100 million. If Tmall exceeds 30 billion on Double 11, the overall capacity of the national logistics and express delivery system will face another big test.

A few days ago, Tmall also announced the logistics preparations for Double 11. Millions of couriers are preparing for Double 11. This year, express delivery and logistics companies in various regions have added more than 2 million square meters of express operation sites; about 4,000 new trunk vehicles have been added, and social trunk vehicles including railway special lines have been upgraded. In addition, this year, big data will be used to guide the logistics operation of Double 11, and it will also cooperate with the National Meteorological Administration Data Center to indicate real-time road traffic conditions through logistics data radar.

In fact, every year, Tmall Double 11 promotes the rapid development of the entire express logistics industry in an extreme way. Double 11 in 2010 caused warehouses to burst across the country, and it took the entire express delivery industry more than two months to return to normal. After that, the express delivery industry entered a period of rapid development. By 2011 and 2012, the express delivery industry basically withstood the total number of packages that exploded on Double 11. In 2012, on Double 11 alone, the national express delivery industry handled 40 million packages.

It is also understood that this year's Tmall 1111 will have 20,000 merchants participating, doubling the number of merchants compared to last year. Many merchants have started preparing for Tmall Double 11 since July, and the industry estimates that the amount of goods prepared by merchants for Double 111 will be an astronomical figure.
