The efficacy and function of wine

The efficacy and function of wine

Traditional Chinese medicine is very effective in treating some special diseases, but we still need to understand it before taking it. Today we will talk about some common sense about wine as a medicinal material.

[Source] A beverage brewed from rice, wheat, millet, sorghum, etc. and koji.

[Chemical composition] Due to differences in raw materials, brewing, processing, storage and other conditions, there are many names for wines, and their ingredients vary greatly. In terms of production methods, liquor can be divided into two categories: distilled liquor (such as kaoliang liquor and shochu) and non-distilled liquor (such as Shaoxing liquor and grape wine). All liquor contains ethanol. In addition to having a higher ethanol content than non-distilled liquor, distilled liquor also contains higher alcohols, fatty acids, esters, aldehydes, etc.; it also contains small amounts of volatile acids and non-volatile acids; sugars are often absent, or present only in small amounts.

【Pharmacological action】 ① Central nervous system action

【Toxicity】 ①Acute poisoning: Mild cases only cause excitement and vomiting, and no special treatment is required. In severe cases, the patient will fall into a coma and should undergo gastric lavage or caffeine injection. Ephedrine, amphetamine, etc. can also be used, and attention should be paid to keeping the patient warm. ② Chronic poisoning: Alcoholics develop tolerance to ethanol and their drinking volume gradually increases, but there is a limit, generally only 3 to 4 times more than normal, which is incomparable to morphine. The occurrence of tolerance is generally believed to be due to a decrease in the sensitivity of the central nervous system. There is generally no withdrawal phenomenon when quitting. In addition to mental symptoms such as delirium tremens and intellectual impairment, common symptoms include chronic gastritis, degeneration of the liver, heart, and kidneys, cirrhosis, multiple neuritis, and optic neuritis. The incidence rate is also high. Alcoholics often use alcohol as their main source of energy and pay little attention to their diet. As a result, they suffer from malnutrition and lack of vitamins, especially thiamine and niacin, which are important factors that contribute to mental and organic disorders.

[Nature and flavor] Sweet, bitter, spicy, warm, and poisonous.

[entry into meridians] Enters the heart, liver, lung and stomach meridians.

【Functions and indications】 Promote blood circulation, resist cold, and promote the effectiveness of medicine. Treats wind-cold arthralgia, spasm of tendons and veins, chest pain, and cold pain in the heart and abdomen.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral administration: drink warm, decoct with other medicines or soak in medicines. For external use: rinse, gargle or rub.

【Note】 Avoid taking this medicine if you have yin deficiency, blood loss, or severe dampness and heat.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat chest pain, wheezing, coughing, spitting, chest and back pain, shortness of breath, deep and slow pulse at Cunkou, and weak, tight and rapid pulse at Guanshang: one Trichosanthes fruit (pounded), half a liter of Allium macrostemon, and seven liters of white wine. Boil the above three ingredients together and take out two liters of the solution. Divide into portions and drink while warm. (Trichosanthes and Xiebai white wine soup from "Golden Chamber")

【Discussions by various scholars】 ①《Yangsheng Yaoji》: "Wine can benefit people, but it can also harm people. Drink it in moderation, it can soothe all meridians, eliminate evil and repel cold. If you drink too much for a long time, or drink too much, it will weaken your body and make you dull. You should be careful and not lose moderation."

[Clinical Application] Treatment of simple postpartum diarrhea: Take 0.5 jin of rice wine, add 4 liang of brown sugar after boiling, continue to cook for 2 to 3 minutes, wait until it cools, take it all at once or in two divided doses (3 to 4 hours apart). A total of 14 cases were treated. Ten cases were cured, 1 case recovered spontaneously after stopping medication, 2 cases had symptom relief, and 1 case had unknown effect. Some people recovered within 3 days after taking the medicine. During the treatment, only one case complained of mild dizziness, and the rest were normal.

【Excerpt】 《*Dictionary》
