[Source] Pteridium aquilinum (L.) Kuhn var. latiusculum (Desv.) Underw., a plant of the genus Pteridaceae, the rhizome or the whole plant is used as medicine. Harvest in summer and autumn, wash, and use fresh or dry in the sun.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet, cold.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and dampness, reduces swelling, and calms the mind. Used for fever, dysentery, damp-heat jaundice, hypertension, dizziness and insomnia, rheumatoid arthritis, leucorrhea, hemorrhoids, and rectal prolapse.

【Usage and Dosage】 0.3～1 liang.

[Remarks] (1) The young leaves are edible and are called bracken . The rhizomes are used to extract fern powder , which is a nutritious food.
