【Habitat distribution】 Cultivated in most parts of the country.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, cold.

[Functions and indications] Treat acute icteric infectious hepatitis, chronic dysentery, hemoptysis, metrorrhagia, leucorrhea, irregular menstruation, sores and carbuncles.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 1 to 3 qian. For external use: mash and apply.

[Additional prescription] ① Treating erythema of redness and menorrhagia: small banana head and azalea. Serve with stewed chicken.

[Clinical Application] Treatment of acute icteric infectious hepatitis: Take 2 to 4 liang (maximum amount not exceeding half a jin) of fresh canna roots, decoct in water once, take in the morning and evening, 20 days as a course of treatment. Avoid eating fish, shrimp, spicy food, meat and animal oil while taking the medicine. A total of 63 cases were preliminarily observed, 58 were cured, 3 improved, and 2 did not recover. There were 34 cases in which the recovery time was about 20 days, 18 cases in which it was about 30 days, and 6 cases in which it was the longest, 45 to 47 days. In addition, a mixture of canna, sedge root and iron horse whip was made to treat 100 cases, 92 of which were cured and 8 were basically cured.
