[Source] Medicinal material source: the root bark or stem bark of the Verbenaceae plant Simao Doufuchai.

[Original form] Simao tofu wood, a tree, plant height 3-10m. Young branches, petioles and inflorescence branches are densely covered with brown, slightly curly hairs. Old branches are glabrous, brown to dark brown, with longitudinal grooves and lenticels. Simple leaves are opposite; petiole is 0.5-7.5cm long; leaf blade is thick papery, base is cuneate or nearly round, margin is entire or occasionally has irregular serrations, tip is gradually pointed, 8-18cm long, 6-14cm wide, surface is sparsely covered with short soft hairs, back is densely covered with brown hairs. The corymbose cyme is terminal, 5-12cm long and 7-23cm wide; the peduncle is 1.5-3cm long, with persistent linear bracts, 4-18mm long; the calyx is campanulate, about 1.5mm long, covered with short soft hairs and light yellow glandular dots, with the apex nearly truncate or 4-lobed, slightly 2-lipped; the corolla is light green-white or light yellow, 3.5-4mm long, with a circle of densely white long soft hairs at the throat; there are 4 stamens, almost equal in length, with soft hairs at the base of the filaments, which extend out of the corolla together with the style; there are yellow glandular dots on the upper part of the ovary. The drupe is purple-black, nearly spherical, 5-7mm long and 4-5mm wide. Flowering and fruiting period is from June to September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in relatively dry sparse forests at an altitude of 500-1500m.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet; slightly bitter; neutral

【Functions and indications】Bone setting; hemostasis; analgesia. Mainly used for traumatic injuries; fractures; traumatic bleeding; rheumatic bone pain

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 15-30g; or soak in wine. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application; grind it into powder and sprinkle or mix it for application.
