Dosage of Mulberry Silkworm Cocoon

Many people may have never seen something like mulberry silkworm cocoons, but they are quite common in traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions. After a period of processing, they can be used as Chinese medicinal materials, and thus can be used to treat many types of diseases. The most important thing is that it can have disinfection and anti-inflammatory effects. You can apply this medicine when you have external injuries, but the dosage must not be too large.

Cuttlebone: slightly cylindrical or semicircular, composed of multiple layers of membrane-like sheets, 2.5 to 4 cm long and 2 to 3 cm wide. The surface is light yellow-brown, with unclear band-like ridges on the top and a flat or grooved bottom. It is light in body, loose and tough in texture. The cross section shows that the outer layer is spongy, while the inner layer consists of many radially arranged small chambers, each of which has a small oval mortise, which is dark brown and shiny. It has a slightly fishy smell and a light or slightly salty taste.

Long silkworm cocoon: slightly long and thin at one end, 2.5 to 5 cm long and 1 to 1.5 cm wide. The surface is grayish yellow with obvious band-like ridges on it, and there is a dark brown shallow groove and oblique texture on each side of the band. Hard and brittle.

Black cuttlefish: slightly parallelogram-shaped, 2 to 4 cm long and 1.5 to 2 cm wide. The surface is gray-brown, with obvious band-like ridges on it, oblique textures on both sides, and slightly upturned near the tail end. Hard and tough.

Mulberry silkworm cocoon, a traditional Chinese medicine name. It is the dried egg sheath of the mantis family insects Tenodera sinensisi Saussure, Statilia maculata (Thurlberg) or Hierodula patellifera (Servi11e). The above three types are commonly known as "round silkworm cocoons", "long silkworm cocoons" and "black silkworm cocoons" respectively. It has the effects of consolidating semen, reducing urine, nourishing the kidney and assisting yang. It is often used for spermatorrhea, enuresis, frequent urination, and turbid urine.

1. To treat nocturnal emission: 2 liang of Alpinia oxyphyllae (fry with 2 liang of salt, then remove the salt), 2 liang of Linderae scabra. The top is the last. Use one or two liang of yam to make a paste. The pills are as big as walnuts. Take 50 pills each time, on an empty stomach with salt water before lying down, and cover with cinnabar. 2. To treat red and turbid urine: 2 liang of Alpinia oxyphylla and Poria cocos, 0.5 jin of Polygala tenuifolia and Licorice root (boiled in water). Grind into powder, make into pills with wine paste, the size of walnuts. Take 50 pills with ginger soup on an empty stomach. (Compendium of Materia Medica)

3. To treat hernia pain with cramps in the lower abdomen and constant screaming: 3 grams each of Alpinia oxyphylla, dried ginger (fried), licorice (roasted), and fennel (fried), 0.5 liang each of Aconitum (fried, peeled), and ginger, and 2 grams of Citrus aurantium (remove the white part). Chop finely. Take four grams each time, add two cups of water and a little salt, boil until seven parts are left, remove the residue, and drink warm on an empty stomach before meals.
