【English Name】 Herba Selaginellae Moellendorfii

[Other names] Selaginella, Selaginella jaundice, Selaginella jaundice

[Source] It is the whole herb of Selaginella moellendorfii Hieron., a plant of the Selaginellaceae family . The whole herb is harvested in summer and autumn.

[Original form] Perennial evergreen herb, up to 40cm tall. The main stem is erect, straw-colored, unbranched at the bottom, with sparsely distributed ovate-triangular leaves; the upper part is branched 3 to 4 times, with dimorphic leaves on the branches, 2 rows on each side of the dorsal and ventral sides, and sparsely distributed ventral leaves (middle leaves). Obliquely ovate, with a sharp tip, heart-shaped base, membranous white margin with fine teeth, dorsal leaves (lateral leaves) obliquely spreading, covered with tiles, 0.3-0.6cm long, solitary at the top of branches; spore leaves ovate-triangular, keel-shaped, with teeth on the margins. The spore period is from August to October.

[Habitat distribution] Grown under forests or beside streams. Distributed throughout the south of the Yangtze River and north to southern Shaanxi.

【Chemical composition】 Contains two aldehyde components, as well as phenolic, acidic and neutral substances.

[Nature and flavor] Neutral in nature, slightly sweet in taste.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, promotes diuresis, promotes blood circulation and reduces swelling. Used for acute infectious hepatitis, chest, flank and waist contusions, generalized edema and thrombocytopenia.
