[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of the umbelliferae plant of the Pleurotus eryngii family.

[Original form] Evergreen small herbaceous semi-shrub, 10-20 cm high, with long and thick rhizomes that ascend obliquely. Leaves nearly opposite or mostly whorled; petiole short, 2-5(-6)mm long; leaves thick leathery, obovate-long cuneate or spoon-shaped-oblanceolate, 3.5-6cm long, 0.8-1.5cm widest at the top, obtuse at apex, narrowly cuneate at base, extending down to petiole, margin above middle with sparse or coarse serrations, margin below entire, dark green with wrinkles above, midrib and lateral veins concave, pale beneath. Flowers with small warts, (2-)3-8(-10) flowers gathered into umbels and inflorescences; flowers are tilted, white, occasionally reddish, 8-10(-12)mm in diameter; pedicels erect, 1-1.7(-2)cm long, with small warts; bracts broadly linear, 3-4mm long, caducous early; sepals 5, round-ovate, 1.5-2mm long, 2-2.2mm at the widest point, obtuse at the apex, with fine teeth on the margin; petals 5, obovate, 5.5-6mm long, 4-4.5mm wide, obtuse at the apex; 10 stamens, filaments short, swollen and ciliate in the lower half; anthers about 2mm long, about 1mm wide, with small corners, dehiscent apex, yellow; style nearly absent, style broadly shield-shaped, 5 shallowly lobed. The capsule is oblate, 5-6mm in diameter. The flowering period is June-July, and the fruiting period is July-August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown under relatively dry broad-leaved forests below 1100m above sea level.

【Chemical composition】 Contains isohomoarbutin and renifolin. The leaves contain 17% arbutin.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; neutral

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and dampness; regulates qi and relieves pain. Mainly used for painful and difficult urination; edema; diarrhea; stomachache; abdominal pain

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 5-10g.

【Clinical application】 1. Diuretic and urethral anti-inflammatory agent. This essential oil is effective for kidney disease, cystitis, urolithiasis, nephritis and gonorrhea, and chronic gonorrheal urethritis. This product is also used to treat various edema and water accumulation.
