The leaves are pinnately divided, expanding into a swallowtail and slightly curved, about 1.5m long; the lobes are 40-60 pairs, arranged in 2 rows, lanceolate, 35-50cm long, 1.2-2cm wide, with a long tail-like acuminate tip and two short lobes of unequal length, the pinnae at the top gradually shortening, about 10cm long; the petiole and rachis are smooth, yellow-green, with grooves on the upper side and convex on the back; the leaf sheath is long and slightly swollen, usually yellow-green, initially covered with waxy white, with longitudinal grooves. The flowers are monoecious, small and golden yellow; the spadix grows under the leaf sheath bundle, is much branched, and arranged in a panicle about 0.8m long, with 2-3 branches, and the branched inflorescence is 20-30cm long, with 8-12 spikelet axes on it, the flowers are small, golden yellow, and spirally arranged; the male flowers have 3 sepals and petals each, and 6 stamens; the female flowers have the same sepals and petals as the male flowers, and the ovary has 1 chamber, with a short style and a thick stigma.
