[Original form] Peppermint is an annual tufted herb, short, 10-15cm tall or slightly taller. The stem is branched, creeping at the base, rooting at the nodes, and glabrous. Leaves are opposite or in whorls of 3-4, membranous, with glandular dots; petiole 4-8mm long, usually glabrous; leaves obovate-oblong or obovate-cune-shaped, rarely nearly rounded, 6-15mm long, 5-8mm wide, with rounded or slightly concave apex, cuneate base, glabrous on both sides, but with fine tricholoma at the apex, especially at the concave part; leaves at the top are large, obovate or nearly elliptical, 18-28mm long, 12-18mm wide; leaf veins 3, basal; leaves in the middle and lower parts are usually smaller. The spike inflorescence is terminal, rarely axillary, usually solitary, rarely clustered, 2-4.5cm long and about 2mm in diameter; the peduncle is 1-1.5cm long, and both it and the inflorescence axis are glabrous; the bracts are round, with short stalks, shield-shaped, and about 0.5mm in diameter; the anthers are nearly round and nearly as long as the filaments; the ovary is ovate, oblique, very small, and has sparse nipple-like soft hairs. The berry is oval, slightly pointed at the top, about 0.4mm in diameter, and has a rough surface. Flowering period is from July to October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown under dense forests, beside ditches or on moist rocks at an altitude of 800-2000m.

[Properties] Identification of properties: The stem is cylindrical, about 3mm in diameter, creeping and curved at the base, with tiny fibrous roots on the nodes. Leaves are opposite or in whorls of 3-4, mostly wrinkled or falling off. When the complete leaf blade is flattened, it is broadly rectangular-ovate to obovate, 12-26mm long, 8-15mm wide, membranous, entire, with 3 basal veins; the petiole is relatively short.
