[Source] This product is the dried whole herb of Aristolochia mollissima Hance , a plant of the Aristolochiaceae family. Harvest in summer and autumn, remove sediment and dry.

[Original morphology] Perennial twining herb, the whole plant is densely covered with yellow-white cotton hairs. The rhizome is thin cylindrical, horizontal, and has many fibrous roots. Leaves are alternate, ovate-cordate, almost equal in length and width, 3 to 8 cm, with short pointed tips and entire margins; petioles are 2 to 5 cm long. The flowers are solitary in the leaf axils, with a leaf-like bract near the middle of the pedicel; the perianth is curved into a pipe shape, with three lobes at the top and purple; there are 6 stamens, adnate around the style; the ovary is inferior and has 6 chambers. The capsule is cylindrical, with broad wings along the dorsal suture, dark brown, and 6-valved. The flowering period is from June to August, and the fruiting period is from September to October.

[Habitat distribution] Growing in grass on hillsides and roadsides beside ditches. It is mainly produced in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Henan and Shaanxi.

[Properties] The rhizome of this product is thin cylindrical, much branched, of varying lengths, with a diameter of 0.2 to 0.5 cm; the surface is brown-yellow, with fine longitudinal lines and nodes, with fibrous roots at the nodes, and some with bud marks; the texture is tough, the cross section is yellow-white, and has radial texture. The stem is slender, light green, and densely covered with white soft hairs. The leaves are alternate, with petioles 1.5 to 3 cm long, and gray-green leaves; wrinkled, and when flattened, they are oval or ovate-cordate, with obtuse or short-pointed tips, cordate bases, densely covered with white soft hairs on both sides, more on the lower surface, entire, and reticulately veined.
