The efficacy and function of Deer Herb

[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole plant of Bacillaceae family.

[Original form] Herb, 10-20cm high. The whole plant is bright red to dark red, sometimes turning purple-red; the rhizome is branched, nearly spherical, 1-3cm long, 1-2.5cm in diameter, and the surface is densely covered with small rough spots and pale yellowish-white star-shaped lenticels. The pedicel is 5-10cm high; the bracts are elliptic-oblong, obtuse at the apex, alternate, 8-14 in number, 2-2.5cm long, 1-1.5cm wide, and the base almost completely covers the pedicel. Flowers are dioecious (inflorescence); male inflorescence is cylindrical, 3-18cm long, gradually pointed at the apex, male flowers are nearly radially symmetrical, perianth lobes are usually 5, nearly round, 2-3mm long, pointed or slightly obtuse at the apex; the polygamous stamens are nearly disc-shaped, with an umbilical protrusion in the middle, 5 anthers, 10 locules, sessile or nearly sessile; female inflorescence is ovate to oblong-elliptic, gradually pointed to the apex, 2-6cm long; ovary is ovate, with slender style and short ovary stalk, aggregated near the base of the appendages; the appendages are clavate or obconical, truncated at the apex or slightly raised in the middle of the apex, suddenly narrowed below the middle to be needle-shaped, about 1mm long. Flowering period is from September to November.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown under dense forests at an altitude of 660-1700m.

[Pharmacological action] After mice were inoculated with solid liver cancer H22, they were gavaged with chloroform extract of Herba Lysimachiae 500 mg/(kg·d) from the next day for 7 to 10 consecutive days. It had a significant anti-liver cancer effect. Mice were gavaged with the extract at doses of 0.5 g/kg, 1 g/kg and 2 g/kg, and no signs of poisoning or death were observed. When chloroform extract of Herba Luxiancao was administered orally at a dose of 500 mg/kg to dogs, no significant changes were observed in their blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration.

【Functions and indications】Nourishes the kidney and yin; clears away heat and stops bleeding. Mainly used for low back pain due to kidney deficiency; consumptive bleeding; hemorrhoidal bleeding

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application; or grind it into powder and apply it.
