[Source] It is the whole herb of the narrow-leaved Acanthopanax chinensis plant of the Asteraceae family. Harvested in summer and autumn, dried in the shade or used fresh.

[Original form] Perennial vine, 20 to 60 cm tall. The stem is erect and has many branches at the top. The leaves are alternate, nearly sessile, lanceolate, 1.5 to 5 cm long, and have coarse serrations or deep fissures above the middle of the margin. The head inflorescence is solitary at the top of the branch; the involucral bracts are oblong or obovate, reddish purple; the marginal flowers are white and ligulate; the central flowers are tubular, yellow, about 3 mm long, and have 5 teeth. Achenes without pappus, obovate, flat, black, and hairy. Flowering period is autumn.

[Habitat distribution] Grown in low mountain areas or on roadsides in plains. Distributed in Shaanxi and other central provinces.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, slightly spicy, neutral.

[Functions and indications] It helps digestion and strengthens the stomach, removes blood stasis and detoxifies. It can treat infantile malnutrition, diarrhea, dysentery, snake bites, and traumatic bleeding.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 2 to 3 qian. For external use: mash and apply.
