The efficacy and function of green vine

Nowadays, our living standards are constantly improving, but our health quality is constantly declining. Unscientific diet poses a potential threat to our bodies. Many Chinese medicinal herbs can regulate and improve our bodies. Here I would like to introduce you to the green vine.

[Other names] Little Lai vine, Qianli looking for roots, cold vine, green vine

[Source] Medicinal material source: The vine stem of the plant Tinospora undulata of the Menispermaceae family.

[Original form] Wavy-leaved green cow gall, a slightly fleshy deciduous vine, the whole plant is hairless. Young branches are cylindrical, yellow-green in color, and old branches have a filmy brown epidermis, densely covered with tumor-like lenticels, and feel rough to the touch. There are often many filamentous aerial roots hanging or growing into the soil, or after the branches are cut off, several adventitious roots grow out and extend down to the ground. The leaves are papery, with petioles twice as long as the leaves, and swollen and twisted at the base; the leaves are cordate, nearly equal in length and width or slightly longer than wide, 6-15cm in diameter, shortly acuminate or acute at the apex, cordate at the base, and usually 5 palmate veins. The racemes emerge before the leaves, solitary or in clusters of 2-3, slender, rarely more than 10cm long; the male flowers have 6 sepals in 2 whorls, the outer whorl is small, the inner whorl slightly larger, 2.5mm long; 6 petals, green-yellow, obovate-spatulate, holding the filaments; 6 stamens, nearly as long as the petals; the drupe is oval, about 1cm in diameter, orange-yellow when ripe, and the back of the endocarp is wrinkled. Flowering period is April.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows in sparse woods, thickets, roadsides or entwined around village fences.

【Properties】 1. Characteristic identification: The stem is cylindrical, with a diameter of 0.5-1.5cm. The surface is yellow-brown, nearly smooth, with shallow longitudinal grooves and wrinkles, numerous lenticels, and wart-like protrusions; the nodes are swollen and have round, sunken branch marks; the cork easily falls off in pieces. It is hard and brittle, with a yellowish-white cross section, radial texture and numerous small holes, and pith in the center. It has a faint smell and a bitter taste.

【Chemical composition】 The stem contains picroretin.

[Pharmacological action] The water extract of Psoralea corylifolia has the effect of treating experimental diabetes in rats. Administration of the drug by drinking water (containing 4g/L of the water extract) for 2 weeks can improve the glucose tolerance of rats. Intravenous injection of 50mg/kg of the water extract can increase the blood insulin level of rats. Drinking water (containing medicine) for one week can significantly reduce the blood sugar of sick mice, which is 10.4±1.0mmol/L and 17.4±1.7mmol/L compared with the control group respectively; and significantly increase blood insulin, which is 12.8±1.1μu/ml and 8.0±0.7μu/ml compared with the control group respectively. The results of rat cell culture experiments showed that the induced stimulation of the water extract of the root of Cnidium monnieri was consistent with the release of insulin by β cells; when the water extract was removed, insulin quickly returned to its original level; the water extract also did not affect the cells' utilization of glucose. It is suggested that the blood sugar lowering effect of Qianli Zhaogen is caused by increasing insulin secretion.
