[Original form] Small tree, up to 12m in height. There are plate-like prop roots at the base of the stem. Simple leaves are opposite; petioles are 4-7mm long, thick and flat; leaves are leathery, obovate, elliptical to oblong, 4-10cm long, 2.5-4.5cm wide, acuminate or obtuse at the apex, broadly cuneate at the base, entire or with very shallow blunt teeth above the middle, with obvious small red spots scattered on the back of the leaves. The inflorescence is axillary, with a peduncle 1-2 cm long; the bracts are born below the calyx tube; the calyx is bell-shaped, persistent, 3-4 mm long, usually (4-) 6-8 lobes, the lobes are triangular and erect; the flowers are green-white, the petals are (4-) 6-8, nearly rounded, usually 2-lobed or torn at the apex, sometimes entire; the number of stamens is 1 times the number of petals; the ovary is inferior, usually 4-chambered. The berry is spherical, about 5mm in diameter, with a triangular calyx tooth at the tip and one seed. The flowering period is from August to February of the following year, and the fruiting period is spring and summer.
