[Source] Medicinal material source: The fruit of the Rosaceae plant.

[Original form] Catalpa ovata, small tree, 3-8m tall. The twigs are stout, densely pubescent when young, and gray-purple or gray-brown and glabrous when old. Leaves are alternate; petiole is 1-5cm long, young fruit is densely pubescent; leaf blade is ovate or elliptical, 5-9cm long, 4-5cm wide, acuminate or acute at apex, broadly cuneate at base, with fine and sharp serrations on margins. Flowers bisexual; umbel or nearly umbel, with 4-10 flowers; pedicels 2-3.5cm long, pubescent; calyx tube with long pubescence on the outside; calyx lobes 5, lanceolate, pubescent on both sides; flowers white or pink, petals 5, obovate-elliptical, about 2.5-3cm long, about 1.5cm wide, with short claws at the base; stamens 20, filaments of uneven length, about one-third of the petals; stylolites 4 (5), with long pubescence at the base, longer than stamens. The pear fruit is oval, 2-2.5cm in diameter, red, with persistent, thick calyx lobes and slender fruit pedicels. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is August-September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown on hillsides, plains or valley terraces at an altitude of 50-1300m.

[Properties] Identification of properties: the fruit is oval in shape, 2-2.5cm in diameter, with red skin without grayish or white spots, and yellowish-white flesh. When ripe, it has 2-5 chambers, each chamber containing 1-2 seeds. The seeds are flat and oval, and are light purple to reddish purple. There is a persistent calyx that is slightly protruding, with sepals hairy on both sides and the outside of the calyx tube hairy. It has a slight fragrance and tastes sweet and slightly sour.
