[Source] Medicinal material source: The algae of Chlamydomonas sphaerocephala of the Chlamydomonas family.

[Original morphology] Aquatic unicellular green algae, oval in shape, with a cell diameter of (10-13) μm × (6-7.5) μm. The cell wall is composed of cellulose and pectin. There are two flagella of equal length at the tip. The chloroplasts in the cell wall are cup-shaped and contain amyloplasts and starch granules with a vacuole in the center. There are asexual reproduction (i.e. asexual division of vegetative cells) and sexual reproduction (heterothallic conjugation of homothallic and homospecies algae) to form a diphasic zygote through conjugation. The environment for sexual reproduction under artificial cultivation is preferably 25°C, 5000-90001x light, and 12 hours of black and white light.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in fresh water or waterlogged soil.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; astringes and invigorates Qi. It is mainly used to treat red and swollen eyes; burns caused by water or fire; chronic diarrhea and prolapse of the anus

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 15-30g.
