[Source] Medicinal material source: The tuberous root of the Menispermum officinale plant of the Menispermaceae family.

[Original morphology] A perennial herbaceous vine in the south of the Yangtze River, the whole plant is hairless. The tubers are spindle-shaped, short stick-shaped or strip-shaped. The branches are slender, brown, and have vertical stripes. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 7-10cm long, sometimes up to 14cm, peltately attached 1-2cm from the base of the leaf blade; leaf blades are triangular or triangular-nearly round, 5-10cm long and wide, rarely up to 13cm, with obtuse apex and convex tip, slightly concave or shallowly cordate base, rarely nearly truncate, entire, occasionally irregularly shallowly wavy, with 3 palmate veins pointing upwards and 6-7 downwards, with obvious veins above and convex below, dense reticulate veins, often tea-brown when dry, and papery.
