【Other Name】 Celeriac

[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of the Umbelliferae plant.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 30-70cm tall. The root is conical, 2-5cm long and fragrant. The upper part of the stem is slightly branched, with white soft hairs when young, and then becomes smooth. The basal leaves are broadly triangular in outline, bi- to tripinnate or bi-ternate pinnate, with 2-4 pairs of pinnae, bi-pinnae ovate or broadly ovate, 1-2 deeply fissured on both sides near the base, with irregular coarse serrations or shallow fissures on the edges, dark green on the surface, light green on the back, covered with white and stiff hairs on both sides, sometimes only on the veins. The compound umbel is terminal or ventral, with a peduncle up to 20 cm long; the involucral bracts are 1-4, broadly linear, caducous; the rays are 3-5; the involucral bracteoles are 4-5, linear-lanceolate, with hairs on the back or margins; the umbel has 1-6 fertile flowers; the petals are obovate, white, the stylopodium is conical, and the ovary is covered with white, flat soft hairs. The double-hanging fruit is linear or clavate, 1-2.2 cm long and 2-2.5 mm wide, with a tail-like tip at the base and prickly ridges; the fruit is rounded pentagonal in cross section, and the ventral surface of the endosperm is concave. Flowering and fruiting period is from May to July.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in hillside forests, streamside and roadside grass at an altitude of 1600-3500m.

【Functions and indications】Dispels cold; invigorates the stomach and relieves pain; improves eyesight. It is used to treat colds caused by wind and cold; headache; wind-cold-damp arthralgia; stomach cold and poor appetite; vomiting; nyctalopia; thrush

[Usage and Dosage] Oral administration: decoction: 9-15g; or grind into powder.

[Discussions by various scholars] "Xinhua Compendium of Materia Medica": It has the functions of dispelling cold, relieving exterior and relieving pain. Used for colds, headaches and body aches.
