The tree Acer truncatum is a type of traditional Chinese medicine and is very helpful for many diseases. Below we will briefly introduce the tree maple.

[Source] Medicinal material source: the root bark, branches and leaves of the golden sand maple of the Aceraceae family.

[Original form] Acer truncatum is an evergreen tree, 5-10m high, rarely 15m high. The bark is rough and dark brown; the twigs are thin and hairless; the winter buds are oval, with light brown scales and ciliated edges. Leaves opposite; petiole 3-5cm long, purple-green, glabrous; leaves nearly circular, oblong-ovate or obovate, 7-11cm long, 4-6cm wide, entire or 3-lobed, middle fissure triangular, obtuse at apex, lateral lobes short acuminate or obtuse, dark green, shiny, glabrous above, light green below, densely covered with white powder, 3-veined, slightly prominent on both sides; leaves thick leathery. Corymbs; flowers are green, polygamous, male and bisexual flowers are on the same plant; sepals are 5, yellow-green, lanceolate; petals are 5, white, linear-lanceolate or linear-oblanceolate; stamens are 8; filaments are glabrous, anthers are yellow, round; disk is slightly fissured, glabrous; ovary is initially covered with white pubescence, which gradually falls off after flowering, is undeveloped in male flowers, and only has a tuft of pubescence between disks; style is 2 mm long, glabrous, 2-lobed, and stigma is flat or slightly recurved. The samaras are yellow-green or green-brown when young; the nutlets are particularly convex, oval, 8mm long and 6mm in diameter; the wings are oblong, up to 3cm long and 1.2-1.4cm wide together with the nutlets, opening at an obtuse angle and rarely horizontal. The flowering period is March and the fruiting period is August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in forests at an altitude of 1500-2500m.

【Nature and flavor】 Pungent; slightly bitter; slightly warm; slightly toxic

【Functions and indications】 Dispel wind and dampness; relax muscles and promote blood circulation. Mainly used for rheumatic pain, fractures caused by falls, skin eczema, and hernia

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and wash with decoction.
