What are the effects of Astragalus?

Astragalus is a very common herb in traditional Chinese medicine. It can be planted or picked wild. Astragalus is used very cautiously. At present, the use of Astragalus is mainly in traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese patent medicine. A few people also add Astragalus to food. Different methods of use have different medicinal effects. When using Astragalus, we must be clear about the specific efficacy of the drug, so that we can use the drug more safely. So what are the effects of Astragalus?

Enhance nonspecific immune function

Astragalus can significantly increase the total number of white blood cells in the blood and promote the phagocytic function and bactericidal ability of neutrophils and macrophages.

Giving mice some medicine boiled with Astragalus membranaceus can significantly increase the activity of NK cells in their spleen, and this process occurs simultaneously with the induction of interferon.

Effects of Astragalus

Astragalus polysaccharides can also stimulate the proliferation of NK cells and enlarge the cell body. The promoting effect of Astragalus on NK cell activity is mainly mediated by inducing lymphocytes to produce 7-interferon, and the promoting effect of Astragalus on NK cell activity is parallel to its induced antiviral activity.

Astragalus can also induce the production of gamma-interferon when cultured with mouse spleen cells in vitro. Administration of astragalus decoction and astragalus polysaccharide to mice with spleen deficiency caused by rhubarb can restore their spleen's ability to produce IL-2. Astragalus can also enhance the responsiveness of peripheral blood lymphocytes to IL-2, thereby increasing the proliferation index of peripheral blood lymphocytes after being stimulated by IL-2.

Enhance specific immune function

Astragalus can significantly enhance cellular immunity and promote the transformation of lymphocytes caused by PHA, COnA, and PWM (Pokeweed). Huangmao increases the amount of hemolysin released by spleen antibody-producing cells and serum lysozyme in mice irradiated with 6OCo once. It has different degrees of promoting or enhancing effects on delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions, the rosette rate of erythrocyte C3b receptor, and the rosette formation rate of erythrocyte-immune complexes.

In addition, although ingredients such as astragalus polysaccharides extracted from astragalus have significant immune-enhancing effects, ingredients with strong immunosuppressive effects are also extracted from astragalus.

Increase the hematocrit of red blood cells and increase the number of red blood cells

Astragalus polysaccharide can increase the hematocrit of normal rats and increase the number of red blood cells. In rats or mice with blood deficiency syndrome model, Astragalus and Astragalus polysaccharide can increase the hematocrit or hemoglobin content. Astragalus can also prevent and treat the decrease in the total number of leukocytes in the peripheral blood and the number of nucleated cells in the bone marrow of mice caused by radiation, and can promote the differentiation and proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells.

The above article explains the effects of Astragalus. Now we know that Astragalus has many effects, and its main effect is to treat most diseases. Of course, the chemical components of Astragalus can be extracted and made into injectable drugs, which have a wide range of applications. When using Astragalus drugs, we must first read the drug instructions and confirm that our disease is suitable for drug use before using the drug. Do not use the drug casually.
