【Original form】 Herbaceous vine. The whole plant is hairless. The roots are thick, long and powdery. Leaves are alternate; petiole is 1.5-4cm long, with 2 round glands at the top; leaves are papery, ovate to ovate-oblong, 6-20cm long and 2.5-10cm wide, with short acuminate or acute tip, mostly rounded base, entire margin, sometimes not obviously 3-lobed. The cyme peduncle is long and slender, with tendrils forming in the middle of the branches, and 1-2 flowers on both sides; the flowers are bisexual or unisexual; the male flowers are smaller than the female flowers, pitcher-shaped, about 4mm long, with 5 stamens, fused into a ring, and born in the lower part of the calyx tube; the female calyx is tubular, about 1cm long, with 5 regular triangular teeth at the tip, 5 petals, oblong, born in the lower part of the calyx tube, with 5 membranous glands at the base of the calyx tube, and the ovary born on the gynophore. The capsule is oval, triangular, 6-9cm long, with 3 fruit petals. It is thin and leathery when dry and shiny, and light yellow to red when ripe. The seeds are oblate with small holes. The flowering period is from January to July, and the morning period is from September to October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: It often grows under sparse forests at low altitudes, on the edge of forests or in algae.

[Cultivation] Biological properties prefer warm and humid climate. The most suitable temperature for growth is 26-32℃ and the annual rainfall is above 1200mm. It is best cultivated in sandy loam with sufficient sunlight, loose soil and good drainage. Avoid water accumulation in low-lying areas.
